This is an exercise that you can do with my support in the video, or on your own.
Follow the steps below:
- Make yourself comfortable wherever you are. If you are sitting or lying down, notice the feeling of the furniture beneath your body and get as comfortable as you can
- Close your eyes, and start to notice your breathing. Take a couple of deep breaths in and out and try to relax
- Now imagine a lovely colour. Any colour that makes you feel warm and comforted, peaceful, or even joyful.
- Imagine that colour as a coloured mist, a coloured orb, cube or ball in front of you
- As you gaze at the colour, keep focused on your breathing. You don’t need to breathe deeply or do anything specific with your breathing. Simply notice your breaths in and out. If you are having trouble visualising the colour on it’s own, think of an object with that colour instead.
- If any other thoughts, images or worries come to mind, just notice them, and then gently bring your attention back to your breathing, and your colour.
- As you breathe, now imagine the colour coming towards you and enveloping you. If it is a mist or vapor, let it flow all around you, or into your mind and body. If it is an orb imagine it flowing down over your head and shoulders and down your body
- Notice how your body feels: it is warm, comforted, tingly, at ease?
- Continue to focus on the colour and the sensations that it brings.
- If your attention starts to wander again, bring it back to your breathing and your colour.
- Whenever you’re ready, start to come back into the here and now, slowly open your eyes and take in your surroundings.
- Take a couple of deep breaths in and out and when you are ready, go ahead with the rest of your day
Practice as often as is helpful.
