Structured Journaling For Anxiety

You may have heard of journaling or keeping a diary.

Lots of us do it for a few days, or weeks and then forget all about it.

The benefits of journaling can be huge for anxiety though, as it helps to take all the worries inside your head and get them on to paper, which can take away some of their intensity.

Try to journal for at least 30 minutes at a time. This gives you time to really think about how you are feeling and allow all of your thoughts to flow onto the paper. If you have time, you can do this each day, or once a week is great too.

If you feel able to, simply start writing and see what comes out.

If you get stuck on where to start, use some of all of the prompts below:

  • How do I feel today in my mind?
  • How do I feel today in my body/ am I holding any tension anywhere?
  • Did I dream last night? What did I dream?
  • How did I feel when I woke up?
  • What worries are present in my mind?
  • How are those worries making me feel?
  • What is one thing that could go well today?
  • What is one promise that I make to myself today?
